At the ripe age of 15 years old HMS Hecla was formally decommissioned and sold in April 1831 for 1,990, just shy of 100,000 in modern money. Though the Northwest Passage had not been discovered, HMSHeclahad successfully crossed the 110 west meridian, wintered at a latitude believed to be impossible, and had discovered over 850 miles of Arctic coastline.
